Mike Marlin was born in suburban London in the
sixties. He dropped out of University when he discovered music and
London and girls. It was a good time: The Police, The Jam, The Clash,
Echo & the Bunnymen, The Undertones, Dr Feelgood, The Stranglers,
Souixsie and the Banshees, Elvis Costello, The Cure.
Armed with his guitar and a 4 track cassette machine, Mike wrote songs
and made tapes in his bedroom. He played in bands that never made it.
In 1982 he split up with his girlfriend and went into an alcoholic
depression. He checked into the Priory (before it was famous) but
checked out on his first day.
Mike was rescued by technology. He became obsessed with computers when
most people thought they were magic. He wrote code in the day and songs
at night. The code worked and people bought it. But the music remained
unheard. For the next twenty five years Mike was a geek with a secret
hobby.
In 2009, Mike met a music producer, James Durrant, who was looking for
classic rock music for a film soundtrack. Mike played him some songs.
18 months later Mike finished the record he started 25 years ago. Now
he is the front man and he hasn't run away - yet.

Friday 6th August The Polecats
were part of the early 80s British rockabilly revival scene and have
never really gone away. Their most famous record, "Polecats are
Go" is considered by many to be one of the greatest rockabilly albums
of all time. Certainly it was a great influence on many of the
rockabilly and psychobilly bands that followed in their wake.
Carmen Ghia and the Hot

The Mercurys are a
band from Sheffield who play very special shows every here and
there. They were one of the top bands of the neo-rockabilly craze
in the 80s and supported any number of bands from The Meteors, The
Polecats and even Morrissey. They confess influences ranging from
Elvis to The Stray Cats and Eddie Cochran to Carl Perkins. With a
grounding like this, The Mercurys are anything but bog standard
rockabilly by numbers.
The Lost Rockets
complete the line up. A relatively new 50s rock’n’roll band who
have been busy touring the bars and clubs of Yorkshire building up a
reputation for an intense live show. Table dancing, dog bass
slapping and stand up drumming don’t stop these guys from nailing the

Daevid Allen was one of the founders of the British
progressive rock band the Soft Machine in 1966. After recording just
one album with the group, he became the founder/leader of Gong, which
he left in 1973 to begin a solo career (though his first solo album,
Banana Moon, was released in 1971 while he was still in the group).
Allen explored his quirky, folky take on rock throughout the '70s and
'80s on albums like 1976's Good Morning and 1983's Alien in New York.
His solo work also included collaborations with underground rock
impresario Kramer like 1993's Who's Afraid? and 1996's Hit Men, which
was released on Kramer's Shimmy Disc label. Allen returned in 1999 with
Money Doesn't Make It, followed a year later by Stroking the Tail of
the Bird. Nectans Glen also followed in 2000. In 2003 Allen formed a
new version of Gong with members of the Japanese collective known as
Acid Mothers Temple, as well as playing and releasing material with his
California-based band University of Errors.

Terry Reid, Superlungs as he’s affectionately known, is without doubt
one of the greatest rock/soul voices this country has ever produced or
is indeed likely to. A Terry Reid concert should be a cherished memory
for any self-respecting fan of the greats of British music.
The legend is of turning down the front man’s job with Led Zeppelin,
recommending his mate Robert Plant instead, a similar offer and rebuff
to Deep Purple; of Aretha Franklin’s statement that The Beatles,
Rolling Stones and Terry Reid were the best England had to offer in
1968, of two World Tours with The Rolling Stones, US tours with Cream,
UK tours with Jethro Tull and Fleetwood Mac, The Isle of White Festival
in 1969 and Glastonbury in 1970, playing at Mick Jagger’s wedding, then
soured record deals and leaving Britain for America nearly 40 years
ago. (see www.terryreid.net for full history)
All true of course, but nowhere near the full story. His songs have
been covered by artists including Marianne Faithfull, The Hollies,
Crosby, Stills & Nash and Cheap Trick. His 1972 album The River,
was re-released in 2002 to massive acclaim prompting Time Out to
comment that this ‘lost’ masterpiece is ‘a pastoral landmark in English
soul music, the nearest we got to a Tim Buckley’. Graham Nash produced
the 1976 classic Seed of Memory and co-wrote several tracks on the
album with his friend. The track Horses Through A Rainstorm, co-written
by Reid and Nash was included in the CSN box set Carry On in 1991 .
Other successful collaborations have seen Terry featured on albums by
Don Henley, Jackson Browne and Bonnie Raitt.

Young British Blues & Soul Songstress ‘Dani
Wilde’ first broke in to the public eye at the tender age of 17 opening
for Steeleye Span’s Maddie prior. Having been brought up listening to
her fathers record collection ranging from Bob Dylan to Motown, Stax
and Chess records, Dani’s childhood dreams were always of singing,
songwriting and performing.
In January 2008, with the release of her debut album ‘Heal My Blues’ ,
Dani Wilde embarked on the ‘Blues Caravan’ tour of the UK, Europe and
America. Each night she had the opportunity to open up for her hero’s
Sue Foley, Candye Kane and Deborah Coleman. Following this tour, Dani
continued to tour the USA opening for Candye Kane and Robben Ford as
well as headlining European tours with her young British band. “Touring
‘Heal my blues’ was such a learning experience for me. I found myself
on the same bill as my hero’s, such as Koko Taylor for example, at some
of the biggest blues festivals in the world… I had a lot to live up
to!”
"She releases a sort of diesel roar from her throat, pierced with
little darts of high falsetto. It is like two voices. She sings the old
twelve bar blues "I'm In The Mood", whooping and slurring like an old
boy from the Delta. The place goes mad, as if it can't quite believe
what it's heard." ALAN FRANKS, The Times Magazine.

"For a London debut this was pretty impressive stuff. For such a young
band the playing was as intuitive as it was spell binding. But above
all Virgil and the Accelerators have an ability to get inside a song
and turn it into somethingelse. If in the fullness of time they can add
more of their own songs they will really be onto something. The truth
of the matter is that they offered jaw-dropping evidence that they
really do have something special. 5/5"

most prominent folk/roots artists.
Carus is the vocalist, guitarist and songwriter of the legendary
Australian band Carus and The True Believers. His solo shows have

Derrin Nauendorf has been a regular at The Boardwalk since 2001 when he
was a surprise addition to our Steel City Blues Festival line up where
he received a standing ovation from the capacity audience. The second
day of our festival was at the City Hall and Derrin was again a last

been a Sheffield favourite ever since sharing the stage with many more
great names including Van Morrison.

The Who.
Based in the USA where they regularly play festivals infront of 100,000

Their live shows concentrate mainly on the Live at Leeds era but their

catalogue.
With the thrashing windmills of Pete Townsend to the mic swinging of
Roger Daltry and the incredible drumming style of Keith Moon combined
with the thunderous bass of John Entwhistle The Wholigans capture the
complete package that is The Who. A show that must be seen to be
believed and a must for any true Who fan.

A startlingly intense reunion from this legendary,
ground-breaking duo. All the old skills are demonstrated with a new
collection of traditional songs and instrumentals. Their experienced
approach to their art lacks none of the fervour of their early days,
and brings a maturity born of many years living with the music that is
an integral part of their beings.
"Intense and demanding, this is hard core traditional music. Sublime
fiddle playing and the passionate delivery of evocative old songs by
their ablest interpretor." Telegraph
"The super-duo are back together after 14
years." The Guardian
"Swarbrick is an absolute revelation here, as instinctively sympathetic
and wickedly inspirational as he ever was. It’s like they were a couple
of twenty somethings again. To hear Swarb bowing with such soul and
tenderness and dynamism too is an unconditional joy." fRoots
This remarkable pairing played an important part in the tremendous
shake up given to British folk music in the middle to late 60's. Dave
Swarbrick first came to prominence on the folk scene as a young
instrumental virtuoso in the Ian Campbell Folk Group. Having worked
alongside other leading musicians such as Ewan MacColl and Peggy
Seeger, Beryl and Roger Marriott and A. L. Lloyd, he teamed up with
Martin Carthy in 1966. While they featured hot instrumental tracks in
their live sets and recordings, Dave's forte in the duo was sensitive
accompaniment to Martin's vocals and guitar. On Rags, Reels & Airs
the focus was solely on Dave and it finally gave him a chance to really
stretch out and demonstrate his leading instrumental prowess. The
result was a new era of English instrumental folk music and a new
approach to folk music altogether. When they parted in 1969 Dave joined
Fairport Convention and his contribution to folk and folk/rock music is
legendary and well documented.
For more than 40 years Martin Carthy has been one of folk music's
greatest innovators, one of its best loved, most enthusiastic and, at
times, most quietly
controversial of figures. His skill, stage presence and natural charm
have won him many admirers, not only from within the folk scene, but
also far beyond it.

Larry Miller is fast becoming one of the must see
rock acts of 2010. With his energetic and eclectic style, Larry brings
a new dimension of showmanship to his performances.
After picking up his brother’s guitar and writing his first song, he
felt his future lay in the same direction as his hero Rory Gallagher.
Larry himself says: “For me, my moment of inspiration was seeing Rory
Gallagher live, I had never experienced anything like it. So loud, so
gloriously on the edge of total mayhem, yet Rory was still totally in
control. How could I NOT do this too! Like Rory I’d work under my own
name, with a band. I’d do all the writing, singing, producing, playing
and leading.”
During his career, Larry has had his fair share of highs and lows, but
he feels that his highest point to date was at the 2009 Cambridge Rock
Festival. The whole affair started rather badly, with Larry’s name
missing on the website, and then the news that he would not be playing
the main stage; they had him headlining the blues tent. Larry and his
band set up, and began to play to a rather empty tent. Meanwhile, the
main stage had technical problems, so the headline acts couldn’t play.
It wasn’t long before the blues tent was overflowing. When the set had
ended, the crowd called seven encores. To his surprise, Larry heard the
MC call a “National Larry Miller Day!” Download

Michael Weston King is widely acknowledged as one of
Britain's finest singer songwriters, Admired by the likes of
Chris Hillman, Ron Sexsmith, Jackie Leven, and the legendary Townes van
Zandt (who recorded one of his songs), he draws his influence
from a wide range of styles, from Pop to Folk, from Country to Soul,
from Gospel to Blues
He is the former leader of U.K. Alt Country pioneers The Good Sons,
with whom he made 4 critically acclaimed albums in a seven year career,
which was recently celebrated by the double album, Cosmic Fireworks-The
Best of The Good Sons (1994-2001).
MOJO magazine wrote "The band who must rate as England's very own Uncle
Tupelo. A truly thrilling collection.", while
www.americana-uk.com said "The British band that played alt. country
before anyone knew what the hell it was. Had the Good Sons done this
same thing across the Atlantic, they would surely have been acclaimed

rising stars of a new generation of roots musicians. Her first two
albums, Boundary County (self-released, 2006) and Letters from Sinners

efforts, which matched Jewell’s understated yet insightful songs with a
rugged blend of Americana styles. They were met with a great deal of
acclaim, with No Depression raving that “Jewell is showing she can
wander with the best of them, and write riveting song-stories about her
adventures along the way.” Indicative of Jewell’s strong following in
Europe, The Word in the UK described her as “A voice of real
distinction [that] manages to transcend some powerful influences and
pierce the fog long enough for her own point of view to emerge.”

Independent folk-roots quartet Emily Barker &
The Red Clay Halo kicked 2010 off in style by hitting the No.1 spot on
both the iTunes Singer/songwriter charts and Amazon’s MP3 Folk albums
chart. The reason for the peak in interest was due to their releasing a
single ‘Nostalgia' through their own label Everyone Sang. ‘Nostalgia'
was chosen for the theme tune to BBC1’s highly acclaimed drama series
‘Wallander’ http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00pxtct
starring Kenneth Branagh.
The song emanates from the band’s second studio album ‘Despite the
Snow’ and has not only won a Bafta but also a Royal Television Society
award for best original theme. Not bad for a musician who has never
owned a television set!
In February, the band travelled to Australia to perform at Perth
International Arts Festival plus a string of tour dates including a
homecoming show in Emily’s birthplace Bridgetown, where the local hall
became the venue for a sold out show promoted by her own family, who
also sold homemade cakes & local beer!
With the planning of their third album well underway, The Red Clay Halo
have been busy arranging Emily’s songs ready for a summer of festivals
and for the first single, due for release this October.

The Bad Shepherds play punk songs on folk
instruments. Not as a gag, but because they really like the noise. They
think the songs are better than people remember. They love folk
instruments. It works. They do songs by The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The
Stranglers, The Jam, Sham 69, The Undertones, The Ramones, The
Buzzcocks, The Specials, Talking Heads, Squeeze and others, even
Kraftwerk! Alright, they're not all punk, but they come from roughly
the same era. They've mostly given the songs a kind of Celtic feel, and
they've stuck in the odd reel and jig here and there. But occassionally
they just thrash! They've always thought the excitement of a reel
taking off is the nearest thing to the excitement of watching punk live
in the 70's.

John first achieved notoriety with his eye-watering
performance on Old Grey Whistle Test and subsequent hit single 'Really
Free' in 1977. A heady mix of blind ambition and rank incompetence was
to keep this microstar shining for almost two decades despite Otway's
ability to turn any situation to his own disadvantage. His
autobiography 'Rock and Roll's Greatest Failure' out sold, by a factor
of ten, all the records he had released since his hit, and now Otway is
struggling to live up to this billing - selling out London Astoria for
his 2000th gig in 1993, filling the Royal Albert Hall in 1998, and
charting at number 9 with his 2002 single 'Bunsen Burner'. For John

It may be a surprise to hear the country rock sounds
of Detroits Deadstring Brothers coming from a city better known for
loud rock and roll, but disillusionment can take many channels.
Desolation, frustration and regret have always been present where great
country music was played, and from its bombed-out inner city to its
sterile suburbs, Detroit has its share.
Deadstring Brothers began in fall 2003. Since then, the band has worked
to develop their own take on the American Sound, drawing influences
from a variety of sources. Its all in there somehow, declares Kurt, but
blues and country music just feel the most natural.
Not unlike Exile-era Stones, Deadstring Brothers deliver a menacing
sound that draws equally on the melancholy of country ballads and the
abandon of rock and blues. The bands music is deeply rooted in the
storytelling and instrumental traditions of Hank Williams, Johnny Cash,
and the American Outlaw Movement, but is also informed by the song
structure and understated aggression commonly associated with Detroit
bands. Their haunting melodies reveal the influence of early 70s rock
icons like The Band and Gram Parsons and The Faces. Deadstring Brothers
live performances have the energy of guitar rock, but sophisticated
arrangements, Hammond Organ and a focus on traditional American music
separate them from many of their Detroit contemporaries.
The band has been touring steadily since the 2004 release of their
eponymous debut and have shared the stage with acts ranging from
Shooter Jennings, Cat Power and Jesse Sykes to Giant Sand, My Morning
Jacket, Drive by Truckers and the Mekons. Look for for their latest
release, Silver Mountain, available Fall, 2007 on Bloodshot Records!

Leeds based Ellen and the Escapades are finding
themselves firmly at the front of the alt-folk wave, currently sweeping
the UK and beyond. Amongst their influences they cite legend’s such as
Neil Young and Fleetwood Mac, as well as more contemporary acts such as

Debut Single “Without You” attracted plaudits and the attentions of
both local and national radio stations and anticipation and

The band spent the summer months playing festivals in the UK and
completed their first mini European tour, before returning to the UK to

Summer 2010 is shaping up to be a great one for the band, with

Born in 1935, Peggy is Pete Seeger’s half-sister and
Ruth Crawford Seeger’s daughter; her life partner was the English
songwriter Ewan MacColl, who wrote First Time Ever I Saw Your Face for
her and to whom she bore three children. Now she is sometimes thought
of as the mother of Neill and Calum MacColl but is very much her own
woman. She is probably best known for her feminist song Gonna Be an
Engineer and for The Ballad of Springhill, which is rapidly becoming
regarded as a traditional song.
After living 35 years in England, she returned to the USA in 1994
and after living in Asheville, North Carolina, for ten years, she now
resides in Boston. She now tours extensively in the USA as a solo
concert artist, singing and giving workshops. She has made 21 solo
recordings and has participated in over a hundred recordings with other
artists.
Her 1998 CD, PERIOD PIECES: WOMEN’S SONGS FOR MEN AND WOMEN,
received major attention from Billboard. She records exclusively for
Appleseed Recordings. Her latest project is her HOME TRILOGY, three
albums in which each disc contains one or two songs of her own
composition and the rest traditional USA songs.
Her latest recording is a 2-CD set, ’Three Score and Ten’. This
captivating set is a distillation of her 70th birthday concert in
London's Queen Elizabeth Hall. She has also started a series entitled
‘Timely Productions’, contemporary songs put out ... well, whenever she
writes them. She has published 149 of her songs in The Peggy Seeger
Songbook (Oak Publications, 1998) as well as a companion volume of Ewan
MacColl’s songs, The Essential Ewan MacColl Songbook (Oak Publications,
2001). Her website, www.peggyseeger.com, gives further information, a
discography, an itinerary and interesting insights into her creative
life.

leading his own groups throughout the years, he has proved himself to
be in the elite creating his own unique sound.

Winterset ( now The Unthanks ) upto now that is. She has recently
teamed up with Heidi Tidow to bring their intensely beautiful, poetic
and wryly observant take on the human condition to the contemporary
folk scene. Since touring with label mates Chumbawamba earlier this

Wednesday 10th November The Same Sky, 20th Anniversary tour 2010
Boardwalk, Sheffield
10 11 2010
It seems hard to believe that it has been 20 years since the much
lauded album The same sky by the then, band, Horse. There were various
top 50 UK chart singles like Careful, Speed of the beat and You could
be forgiven and of course the album itself, which continues to be in
demand.
This glorious and utterly unique album, with beautifully crafted songs
has been described as the backdrop to lives, people falling in and out
of love to it. It will be performed in its entirety by her band and in
addition she will be adding the most popular b sides into the mix
Where some of the original band are no longer involved in music, Horse
continues to write and perform. She has her own record label – Randan,
and in total has 8 albums, including The Same Sky.
For those who know Horse and this stunning album, this is a chance to
re-live their own memories and for those who are not, as yet,
acquainted with the amazing performer and writer that is ‘Horse’,
prepare to be astonished.
Thursday 11th November Maggie Bell – Scotland’s
Queen of the Blues, founder member of Stone the Crows, who later had an
incredibly successful solo career on both sides of the Atlantic,
returned to the music scene after a 20-year lay off. She was a
resounding hit at the Led Zeppelin reunion concert in 2007.
Dave Kelly – London’s slide guitar king, having learned his trade in
the backing bands of (and while recording with) Son House, Howlin’
Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy and Junior Wells, to name just five
blues legends, was a founder member of The Blues Band (an unforgettable
headline act at the 2007 Admiral Mumbles Mostly Jazz & Blues
Festival). He is still wowing audiences after some 30 years.
Friday 12th November
Aynsley does not simply reheat the blues of
yesteryear - no simple 12 bar numbers here. He produces songs with a
contemporary feel and sound, infusing influences from the 1960’s blues
boom era with a more current melodic & lyrical approach. Aynsley is
one of very few artists playing rocking blues with a modern edge
-tangible, heartfelt, soul searching and full of fine songwriting;
played with passion, vitality and simply stunning guitar work,
reminiscent of a young Clapton.
In June’s edition of Classic Rock, in a live review, Pete Makowski
wrote “Aynsley Lister is a precocious talent who looks like one of
McFly and plays like Robert Johnson at volume 11” In another feature in
“Classic Rock” magazine, they recommended
10 blues/rock artists capable of taking this genre of music to the
highest level. Among those suggested were The White Stripes, John
Meyer, Jonny Lang & Joe Bonasmasa. The only British or European act
in their top ten was AYNSLEY LISTER

the best in business, next to Bon Jovi themselves, look no further.
Sunday 14th November " Whether he's
ranting a poem
or bashing out a song there's something majestic about Attila in full
flight." Ian McMillan, Radio 4.
Radical performance poet and songwriter Attila started out as a punk
bass player in 1977, took his stage name in 1980 during a short stint
as a stockbrokers clerk ( they hated him, he hated them ) and did his
first gig as Attila in Harlow on 8th september 1980.
Since then he's done over 2700 more gigs in 21 countries at every
conceivable type of venue ranging from the Glastonbury Festival where
he's appeared every year since 1983 through to a hotel basement in
Stalinist Albania. He's released 6 books and over 20 cd's/LP's and he's
more fired up now than when he first started.
He'll make you roar with laughter and seethe with anger on a poetic and
musical journey via the huge amount of material he's written from then
to now, personnal, local, national and international, from the
Falklands War and the miners strike to the fall of the Berlin Wall and
Thatcher, the rise of of the European far right, the war in Iraq and
his tribute to his late mother who died in June after a 6 year battle
with Alzheimers. Interspersed as ever with some silly and occasionally
very rude bits about dead cats and dirty sleeping bags.
If you've any requests for a favourite song or poem don't be afraid to
ask, he wants you to join in the celebration!
Wednesday 17th November
Ian's driving bottleneck guitar style and classic
blues voice has won him a lot of fans worldwide. One of the finest
blues voices this side of the Atlantic, Ian was dubbed by Mojo magazine
as 'the cleverest writer and most magnetic performer of blues currently
working in the UK'. An enigmatic delivery of the blues. Without doubt
the most talented musician to emerge from Britain on to the European
blues scene in years, he doesn't just perform the blues, he is
possessed by them.
This show welcomes the remarkable One-Man-Band, BEN PRESTAGE from
Florida to The Boardwalk.
It will be a unique and memorable show - one of the world's finest solo
blues artists (for impassioned vocals many would argue THE best),
together with the singular talent that is Ben Prestage, making his
first tour of the UK.
Now, if you think this is going to be an evening of subdued acoustic
blues, think again! Ben Prestage really is a one-man-band. He gets
audiences dancing.
Ian's profile and popularity preceed him; however you may not know of
Ben Prestage. Born the grandson of a Mississippi sharecropper, Ben
Prestage has been soaked in Blues tradition and Mississippi culture
since birth. Growing up in the swamps of south central Florida,
Prestage began to mix Mississippi Country Blues with his own brand of
Florida Swamp Blues. He tours nationally in the USA, and in 2008 was
second place in the Blues Foundation's International Blues Challenge.
The following three-minute docu-video gives you an insight to his music.

CD, in London. A not to be missed show.

Both Foreigner and Journey collectively have sold
well over 130
million albums worldwide, including several top ten hits around the
world.
After completing an arena tour supporting Journey with John Parr,
Yorkshire based guitarist John Oxley was keen to replicate the magic of
Journey again on stage, together with bass player Paul Flanaghan who’s
musical collaboration of over 20 years was destined to continue as both
felt strongly that the musical mix of these two great bands would be a
perfect combination.
Some 12 months on and following the bands debut sell out show on the
10th January 09, the band aptly named 'A Foreigners Journey' have
played over 50 shows throughout the UK and also performed at the Rhodes
Rock 09’ festival in Greece.
In August 2009 the band joined forces with award winning
singer/songwriter Jimi Anderson whose vocals and stage presence are
guaranteed to captivate you.
Saxophone player Chris Backhouse, Ian Ferris on drums & Craig Brown
on Keyboards and second guitar complete this new and exciting line-up,
taking this dual tribute show of Foreigner and Journey to another level.
The band are touring extensively throughout the UK in 201o and with the
bands inclusion on next years Rhodes Rock 2010 bill, A Foreigners
Journey’s foundations seem to be firmly set alongside some of Europe’s
most established and respected tribute bands around today.

‘‘Come and check out this amazing band, they really ROCK!’’ Jeff
Pilson, Foreigner
Saturday 4th December
The costumes are shamelessly camp and the
instruments genuinely vintage. DO NOT confuse this band with the
grotesque parody on parody Stone's bands that abound or a bunch of old
pro's jumping on the tribute bandwagon. This band have a passion for
what they do and while the tongue is not far from the cheek they make
sure it isn't to the detriment of the music.
A typical 2 hour show includes not only all the classic crowd pleasing
hits but also enough eclectic selections from deepest recesses of the
Stones archives to satisfy the most demanding fans all performed with
the same attack and raw energy that characterised the original Stone's
shows. For those that witnessed Brian Jones et al in their heyday this
is a chance to visit lost youth, for the rest of you nows your chance
to see what the fuss is about. A band highly regarded by the real
Stone's inner circle.

in 1990.They went on to win the Blues Band of the Year award 4 times,

They were chosen, after being spotted at the Alexis Corner Memorial
concert at Buxton Opera House, to be tour support for the legendary
Peter Green when he embarked on his first National tour for 25 years
and they headlined major blues festivals all over the world.
After a 6 month long tour in 2001, including a sell out Boardwalk show,
they finally called it a day on New Years Eve 2001.
Dave and Harry have now reformed the band and they're back with a
vengeance!

The iconic British rock band, The Kinks, are often
cited as one of the most important and influential rock bands of all
time.
Their first hit, You Really Got Me, in 1964, broke new ground with
driving power chords and Dave Davies’ distorted guitar sounds, and
created a template for many bands to follow in a rock and roll
development which led variously to heavy metal, new wave and grunge.
Later work saw the band’s style change to more melodic songs,
highlighting Ray Davies’ lyrical and observational skills in songs like
Sunny Afternoon, Dead End Street and Waterloo Sunset.
Although the band’s popularity in the UK waned in the 1970s, they found
new commercial success in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and returned
to the UK top 20 in 1983 with Come Dancing. The Kinks continued as a
recording and gigging band until 1996, when the Davies brothers went
their separate ways with solo careers.
During the band’s 32-year career, there were some changes in personnel,
Pete Quaife, the original bassist, was replaced by John Dalton in 1969,
and keyboard player John Gosling was added in 1970. Following the two
Johns’ departure in the late 1970s, Jim Rodford became the Kinks’
bassist (after a short tenure by Andy Pyle) and Ian Gibbons took over
on keyboards. Original drummer Mick Avory left the band in 1983, to be
replaced by Bob Henrit.
The Kast Off Kinks formed in 1994 to keep the music playing on, and it
is what the name implies - the original line-up consisted of the band
that played Lola (apart from Ray and Dave), together with
singer/guitarist Dave Clarke. The current line-up is the band that
played Come Dancing, still with Dave Clarke covering for the Davies
brothers.
